A couple of portraits

Earlier this year my wife's cousins visited us for a week or so and I got a chance do paint a portrait of each of them. I spent about 5 hours on each painting. They are both oil on panel.

Italian Renaissance Lectures

I'll be giving 2 lectures on painting and sculpture during the Italian Renaissance at the Cairns Regional Gallery on the 11th and 18th of May. 

The cost is $5 (Gallery Members: $3) per lecture- Glass of wine included
Monday May 11
5.30-6.30pm
Painting and Sculpture in Renaissance Italy
The first lecture will focus on the early Renaissance in Italy, looking at developments in visual vocabulary that had a major impact on painting and sculpture in subsequent centuries.

Monday May 18
The Italian High Renaissance and Mannerism.
The second lecture will be about the High Renaissance and Mannerism, focusing on the crystallisation of so many ideas and the later rejection of many of them.

Finalist in the AME Bale Travelling Scholarship

I recently had four paintings and two drawings selected and exhibited as part of the AME Bale Travelling Scholarship exhibition in Melbourne. I was a finalist in the scholarship category as well the seperate drawing and painting categories. I flew down to Melbourne for the opening and it was a great night. Here are some photos of the selected works. Apologies for the low resolution of a couple of the photos, I'll post better ones once they're taken.

Finalist in the Percival Portrait Painting Prize

One of my paintings was recently selected as a finalist for the Percival Portrait Prize, an annual national competition in Townsville, Queensland. Portrait Workshops

I recently taught a 3 day portrait painting workshop at my home in Cairns, Australia. 
I thoroughly enjoyed working with the group I had;
 they all produced some great work and I look forward to doing it again soon.

I'll also be teaching a 5 day portrait workshop between the 21st to the 25th of July as part of ArtEscape, the most prominent Art teaching event of North Queensland.

Stanthorpe Art Prize

My painting Still Life with Conch has recently been selected as a finalist for the 2014 Stanthorpe Art Prize in Stanthorpe, South East Queensland. The exhibition will run from the 28th of February until the 13th of April at the Stanthorpe Regional Gallery.

Exhibition and an Interview
