Finalist in the Moran Portrait Prize

My painting 'Self Portrait with Landscape' was recently selected as a finalist for the Moran Portrait Prize in Sydney. The prize is annual and is one of the richer portrait prizes around. The painting will be on display at Juniper Hall in Paddington, Sydney for the next few months, after which it will travel to regional galleries around Australia.

Copying Master Paintings at the Met

A couple of weeks ago myself and a few fellow students from the Grand Central Academy got permission to copy from master paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This was a great opportunity to really get close to a master painting and understand what the artist was thinking when they made it.

I chose a portrait by Jean Baptiste Greuze to copy. Here it is partly finished.

I should be able to get back to the Met soon and finish it.

"Stegosaurus"

Here's a painting I did a few years ago of a toy stegosaurus. Like a lot of kids growing up, dinosaurs used to fascinate me and I thought it would be fun to revisit the subject.

Some Cast Drawings and a Painting

Here is the most recent cast drawing I did in my first year at the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York. I have one more cast drawing to do before I move onto painting when I return in September.

I did this drawing from a cast of a Donatello sculpture while I was on my summer break in Cairns, Australia.

I painted this study of a tree in Cairns. It was the view outside my bedroom window

Still Life with Brazillian Fabric

Oil on Linen, 26 x 26 inches
Here is a Still Life painting, recently sold, that I'd been working on for a while. It was my attempt at using a cooler palette than I normally would and it served to satisfy my interest in employing a combination of pattern and three- dimensional form.
